What the validator checks

The parser follows strict CSV quoting rules: a quote begins a field, doubled quotes represent a literal quote, and a closing quote must be followed by a delimiter, record ending or end of input. Commas, tabs and newlines inside quoted fields are preserved.

Each non-blank record is compared with the first record’s field count. When the first record is a header, the tool also flags empty or duplicate header names. Header warnings do not prevent normalization; a malformed quoted field does.

Normalization and privacy

  • Choose automatic detection or specify comma, semicolon, tab or pipe as the input delimiter.
  • Normalized output uses the selected output delimiter, escaped double quotes and CRLF record breaks. Field contents are not trimmed or converted to numbers.
  • Inconsistent row widths are reported, not silently padded or truncated.
  • Input is limited to 1 MiB and 50,000 records. Validation runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded or saved.

CSV Validator FAQs

Yes. Put the field in double quotes; represent a quote inside it as two double quotes. Delimiters and line breaks inside quoted fields are treated as data.

No. It reports field-count mismatches but preserves the rows as parsed. Add or remove fields yourself, then validate again.

Blank records are ignored by default and counted in the findings. Turn off Ignore blank records if you need to inspect them as one-empty-field rows.

No. The CSV is processed locally in memory and is not uploaded or written to browser storage.
