Keyword Density Checker
See which words and phrases your content repeats most. Paste text — or a page's HTML — to get every keyword and 2- or 3-word phrase with its count and density, and check how often your focus keyword appears.
Keyword counts appear here as you type.
What Is Keyword Density?
How often a word or phrase appears compared with the total number of words.
Keyword density is the number of times a keyword appears in a text, divided by the total number of words, as a percentage. If “tea” appears 12 times in a 600-word article, its density is 12 ÷ 600 = 2%.
This checker uses that same formula for phrases: a 2- or 3-word phrase that appears 6 times in 600 words has a density of 1%. Phrases are only counted inside a sentence — never across full stops, commas or line breaks — so the results are real phrases from your text.
There is no ideal density. Google doesn't use a target percentage; it warns against keyword stuffing — repeating words unnaturally. Use the numbers to spot over-used words and to check that your main topic is actually covered, not to hit a number.
Any language. Words are detected with Unicode rules, so Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Arabic, Russian and other languages work. Chinese, Japanese and Thai, which don't put spaces between words, are split into words with your browser's built-in word segmenter. The stop-word list is English.
Using the Results
Numbers are a guide, not a goal.
Your topic should lead
The top 2- and 3-word phrases should describe what the page is about. If they don't, the page may be unfocused.
Watch for stuffing
A word far ahead of everything else (often above ~3%) can read as unnatural. Use synonyms and related terms.
Check the focus keyword
Make sure it appears — especially in the title, the first paragraph and a heading — without forcing it.
Write for people
Search engines understand synonyms and context. Clear, helpful writing beats any density target.

Frequently Asked Questions
There isn't one. Google has no target percentage and warns against keyword stuffing. Many writers find their main keyword naturally lands around 0.5–2%; if a word is far above the rest, rewrite with synonyms.
Occurrences ÷ total words × 100. Total words includes every word, also stop words and numbers. For phrases, each occurrence of the whole phrase counts once.
Very common words like “the”, “and”, “of” and “is” that carry little meaning. They're hidden from single-word results, and phrases may not start or end with one — but “cup of tea” is still counted.
