Text to Slug

What Is a URL Slug?
The readable part of a URL that identifies a page — like /blog/text-to-slug-guide.
A slug is the last part of a URL, written in a URL-safe form: lowercase words separated by hyphens, without spaces, punctuation or special characters. Good slugs are short, readable and describe the page, which helps both visitors and search engines.
This generator converts any text into a slug: it lowercases letters, replaces spaces and punctuation with a separator, turns & into “and”, removes apostrophes without splitting words (don't → dont) and collapses repeated separators.
Accents and other languages. With Latin only on, accented letters are transliterated (é → e, ß → ss, ø → o) and characters from other scripts are dropped. Turn it off to create Unicode slugs that keep words in Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Arabic, Chinese or any language — browsers show them as text, and they're sent percent-encoded.
If a title has no Latin letters at all (for example, a Hindi title) and Latin only is on, the slug would be empty — the tool tells you so instead of silently producing nothing.
How to Write Good Slugs
Google recommends simple, descriptive URLs.
Use hyphens
Google recommends hyphens to separate words: red-shoes, not red_shoes or redshoes.
Lowercase
URLs are case-sensitive on most servers. Lowercase slugs avoid duplicate URLs like /Page and /page.
Short & descriptive
Keep the words that describe the page. Removing stop words and setting a max length helps.
Don't change live slugs
Changing the slug of a published page changes its URL. If you must, add a 301 redirect from the old URL.

Frequently Asked Questions
The part of a URL that identifies a specific page in a readable way, usually derived from the page title — for example “how-to-make-tea” in example.com/blog/how-to-make-tea.
Hyphens. Google treats hyphens as word separators, so “red-shoes” is read as “red shoes”. Underscores may join words together.
Yes. Turn off Latin only to keep letters from any language. Browsers display them normally, and they're percent-encoded when sent. Many sites use them for local-language content.
Often yes for long titles — “the-best-way-to-learn-javascript” becomes “best-way-learn-javascript”. But keep them if removing them changes the meaning or makes the slug awkward.
There's no fixed limit, but short slugs (roughly 3–6 words) are easier to read and share. Use Max length to cut long slugs at a word boundary.
No. Everything runs locally in your browser.
